Behind the Design

They say a house is built with walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams! Tyler and I first began dreaming about the possibility of building a home on the Ball family farm almost 3 years ago. As stressful as the process has been, I am loving picking out the design features! Keep reading as I share my thoughts behind our selections.

My goal is to design our shop/house to have a farmhouse western vibe. The front will open with double black doors to the living/kitchen area. We will have barn doors leading to the hallway/bathrooms. The doors and trim will be white with black hardware. I love the contrast between the black and white, it gives the design such a clean and crisp look.

We decided last minute to add a coat and linen closet. The pantry will give us space to include a chest freezer! It has been a while since I have gone through all of our stuff and done a deep purge, when we moved out of our house, it happened so fast I just through things in boxes. Moving into our house will give us a chance to go through things and minimize our belongings. Organization is going to be a top priority and maximizing our space is key. Send me all of your tips haha.

I had a vision for what I wanted the inside of our Shouse to look like and our contractor/designer is really bringing it to life! Speaking of storage, built ins were so important to me. I want things to be beautifully designed but still functionable.

I never even thought about rearranging our laundry room to have the washer and dryer on the side wall but check out the use of space here! I have a cute "Welcome Home" sign that will look great on the back wall. Shiplap will be used in the bench/coat hook area and in our fireplace-built ins. I think it will tie in nicely with the farmhouse vibes.

The design is mainly black and white, but I wanted to bring in some warmth with our cupboards and floors. I also decided to go with a matching hood vent. We went and picked out our appliances the other day, all stainless steel! The stove will be electric but what do you prefer? I went with electric for safety, but I really do like a gas stove.

Let's take a walk back outside. We will be putting barn lights about the overhead doors and next to the walk-in-doors. I want to make it a place that is welcoming, a place where people feel joy and peace!

Hopefully we will be moving in early this summer! I can't wait to show you the finished designs once we get settled!
